SPECIAL POST! The Vintage Purse Museum was very fortunate to acquire this 1950s Dale Evans drawstring handbag. We did our best to garner more information about this wonderful piece of cowgirl history. Special thanks to Bethany D. of the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame for scouring its archives. Alas, the only info we could find about Dale Evans' line of handbags was a small newspaper ad (see below) clipped via a subscription to Newspapers.com.
When we acquired this bag (which elsewhere has been referred to as "stirrup-shaped"), we did not know it would have an extra piece of history! It came to us with a woman's billfold (we have blurred her address and social security number, although she passed away in 1997 at the age of 95). The calendar inside the billfold--if it was, indeed, carried with the purse--would correctly date this bag to 1955, as shown in the newspaper ad.
If you have any info about Dale Evans' handbags, please email info@vintagepursemuseum.com.
